2012 Three Bridge Fiasco Report

A Bit Early

Results are preliminary and there is an ominous statement in there about the over early boats having not been bashed yet so, pending other developments, we are still raging and someone has to take the recycling out as we can’t fit another Champaign bottle in there!

Wow what a day, what a fast race, what a huge lead from 89, what a great fleet with 30 starters… yeah that’s what I’m talking about. Well done to the seldom seen boats and hope you go home and spread the Moore magic around.

Cadenza 19 Donald, Bruce
Sparrowhawk 65 Condy, Tom
Tonopah Low 88 Shaw, Emma
Hurricane 110 Gay, Stephen
Brick House 91 Straub, Chris
Fatuity 48 Schaumburg, Michael

Bart and I were sailing our butts off and going so slow, we were cursing our tired #1 and were just trying to hang with the fast guys. It didn’t help that we stopped in at Sausalito for a Latte while everyone shot right through the Straits without even a friendly wave to acknowledge our misfortune. (Well everyone that is except for a certain #75!) We were left with a gloomy feeling that was only lifted by thoughts of the freezing cold Lagunitas IPA down below. We began to cheer for 89 who had pulled out a huge effin lead and we were hoping for a first OVERALL for Peter and Roe. We were settling in and trying to accept our fate and were saying that the only way we could get back into this rodeo was if the wind quit and it got really funky.

Now I have been living a pretty clean life so far, well at least in 2012, and so I thought that the gods may smile on our small boat and big problem but it hardly seemed like a likely prospect. I don’t know what the rest of you have been doing but you really must have been misbehaving because we got just what we hoped for only because relative to you guys we are sooo… clean! It got funky right on time, right before 89 could get past “Herb Good” island. The breeze was from the east on the shore and there was a big nothing in the middle. We quietly slipped in there on the inside next to the island, well after Buzz and Jim on that big thing crapped themselves with a huge chute and a nice lee shore zooming at them, we had a little positive current and sat there looking at where not to go. We got past the Coast Guard station and were just kinda goofing off looking at the new bridge when we saw the flag at the very top start to show nice easterly. We got the kindest little puff and were off before the rest of ya!
